Minister for Agriculture, Dr. Mahendra Reddy says they have got more than 83,000 farmers who are engaged in full time agriculture.
He revealed this while handing over small farming equipment to six farmers in the Central Division. The equipment includes mini-tractors, rotary tillers, front end loader attachments, cutters/shredders, mills and mini-dryers.
Dr. Reddy says realistically speaking, no government can support 83,000 farmers in a year, however, they will progressively deliver their assistance to all farmers, over time.
Dr. Reddy says they are looking at assisting 44 farmers by providing them with small farming equipment through an allocation of $240,000.
