It was a proud moment for eight inmates at the Nasinu Corrections Centre after graduating with a Level 1 Automotive Mechanical Engineering Certificate from the Nasinu Corrections Vocational Centre.

The eight inmates are Demesi Fuata, Jekemaia Rabonu, Tomasi Koroivosa, Taito Rawaqa, Viliame Mocevakaca, Mohammed Sagaitu, Waisake Loabure and Tausia Fabiano.

The 2-year course is being provided by the Fiji National University and APTC.

The inmates were reminded by Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama that change does not have to wait after they serve their sentence.

He says change can happen in a correction system all along the way, regardless of who the person is.

Bainimarama says ample research and results show that education has a massive impact on lowering incarceration and crime rates.
