8 former SODELPA MPs have resigned and applied to join the People's Alliance.

They are Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, Ro Filipe Tuisawau, Inosi Kuridrani, Ratu Antonio Lalabalavu, Mitieli Bulanauca, Peceli Vosanibola, Ratu Tevita Navurelevu and Jese Saukuru.

While confirming this at the People's Alliance Headquarters, Ro Filipe says they have been interviewed by People's Alliance and await their response.

Ro Filipe says they could not reconcile the differences given the difficulties within SODELPA.

He says the report that resulted in Niko Nawaikula being imprisoned came from within a faction of SODELPA.

Ro Filipe says moving forward their political objective and what they stood for would be better served if they move out of SODELPA.

He further says their supporters understand what has happened and the need for them to move away.

People's Alliance Leader, Sitiveni Rabuka says their announcement will take place between now and announcement of their candidates next week.

He says at the moment they are working on an open merit system but they have the merit as they have proven themselves.

Rabuka adds their manifesto will be announced strategically next week so their candidates can use it during the campaigns.
