For the first time, 75 percent of the Members of Parliament voted for the 2024-2025 National Budget.

This has been confirmed by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Professor Biman Prasad, who says they have not only seen a strong support in Parliament, but they also got overwhelming positive feedback from the general public, the private sector, civil society organisations, academia and leaders.

He says this is the kind of leadership that they appreciate and they move towards where many of them engage with the Government.

Professor Prasad says this remarkable achievement shows the trust and confidence that a lot of people have.

The Deputy Prime Minister says having the Coalition, people may disagree on many of the policies and may have differences of opinion as to how the Government has done in the last 18 months but one thing everyone has to agree is that they can now work together.

He says people can now engage, criticize and suggest without any kind of fear.

Professor Prasad also confirmed that the National Development Plan will be launched next month after the Cabinet endorsed it earlier this week.

He says consultation for the Plan was carried out this year with over 21,000 people in over 330 meetings conducted across the four divisions.

The Deputy Prime Minister says they listened to feedbacks, and criticism, sometimes harsh and then acted by implementing policies that ensure long-term stability.

The National Development Plan is expected to be implemented from 1st January next year.
