Seven people have been arrested for allegedly possessing methamphetamine while two people have been arrested for allegedly possessing marijuana over the weekend.

Assistant Commissioner of Police – Operations Livai Driu says the arrests were made in Lami, Raiwaqa, Nausori and Lautoka.

In Lami, a 23-year-old man was arrested at Nasevou Road following the discovery of zip-lock plastic bags containing a white crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine.

In Raiwaqa along Nailuva Road, a 19-year-old was arrested following the discovery of a zip-lock plastic bag containing white substances believed to be methamphetamine.

Along Kings Road near Koronivia, a vehicle transporting three men and a woman was stopped and searched, whereby several zip-lock plastic bags containing a white crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine and smoking apparatuses were seized.

ACP Driu says in the Western Division in Natabua, Lautoka, two men were taken into custody following the discovery of several sealed plastic bags containing white substances believed to be methamphetamine, and close to $4,000 cash believed to be from proceeds of crime.

In Lauwaki, Lautoka, a 25-year-old woman was taken into custody after she was allegedly found with a plastic bag containing dried leaves believed to be marijuana.

Again in Lautoka along Kadavu Street, a 30-year-old man was found with a plastic bag containing a white crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine.

Along Vomo Street, a 49-year-old man was found with several sachets of dried leaves and plastic bags containing loose dried leaves all believed to be marijuana and more than $4,000 cash believed to be from proceeds of crime.

ACP Driu says the Fiji Police Force is continuing with all efforts in the fight against drugs and is doing so by working closely with stakeholders to combat drugs by reducing its supply.
