6-year-old girl is believed to have drowned at the Navatuvula River in Tailevu

A 6-year-old girl is believed to have drowned at the Navatuvula River near Raralevu Village in Tailevu on Sunday.

Police say the girl was swimming with her sister at the river when she disappeared.

They say a search was conducted by the villagers who managed to recover the victim’s body a few meters from where she had disappeared.

A post mortem will be conducted to ascertain the cause of death and investigations continue.

The drowning death toll currently stands at 3 compared to 8 for the same period last year.
