51 RFMF officers have departed for Tonga today to support those affected by the volcanic eruption and tsunami.

They will be working with the Australian Defence Force, New Zealand Defence Force and His Majesty’s Armed Forces.

The Commander of the RFMF, Major General Jone Kalouniwai had earlier said that the Australian Defence Force has made available a strategic lift capability to take our troops across to Tonga.

He says the RFMF personnel have undergone PCR COVID-19 test and have been placed under strict isolation until departure.

He says control and sustainment arrangements will be similar to their current deployment arrangements in the Solomon Islands.
