At least five people were shot dead after Kenyan Police fired live rounds at demonstrators in Nairobi over a controversial finance bill that has sparked widespread protests.

Among the protesters was Auma Obama, the half-sister of former US President Barack Obama, who was teargassed by police.

Kenya’s Parliament was set ablaze as protesters stormed the building where the ceremonial mace was also stolen.

The country has been in the grip of nationwide protests against proposed tax hikes which quickly turned violent.
