Five men are in police custody following last night’s seizure of large bags containing parcels of dried leaves believed to be marijuana in open sea.

Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Kasiano Vusonilawe says their Operation Sasamaki Team was deployed to Kadavu earlier in the evening and later intercepted a fiberglass boat in open waters, where five people were arrested.

Investigations are ongoing.

Acting ACP Vusonilawe stated that the operation's success resulted from effective information sharing and acknowledged members of the public for supporting the ongoing efforts against drugs.

He says, as reiterated by the Commissioner, their focus on green and white drugs remains the same.

He is encouraging the public to continue sharing information through Crimestoppers on 919 or directly to their Divisional Police Commanders, or to him on 9904 905. Operation Sasamaki continues throughout the five policing divisions.
