445 Fijians have been provided employment and $56.2 million has been injected into the Fijian economy under the Australian Government’s Maritime Essential Services Centre project in Nakula Street, Lami.

Project Engineer Captain Ben Carruthers says the project is expected to be completed by August next year.

Corrothers says their construction is in line with the standards set by the Department of Environment in Fiji.

He also says once the project is complete, the headquarters of the Fiji Navy will be based there and they will source 74 percent of their energy using solar panels.

Fiji and Australia are working together on the Vuvale Partnership on this project.
