Six people, including two police officers, a former Fiji Airways driver, a senior customs officer, a businessman, and a Nigerian national, have been charged with two counts each of unlawful importation of methamphetamine, with each consignment reportedly weighing over 3 kilograms.

The accused Chukwuemeka Phabian, Apenisa Matadigo, Uraia Bolalailai, Viliame Nalagi, Neumi Donumainasava, and Osea Raicama Dakai appeared before Magistrate Mareta Tikoisuva in the Nadi Magistrates Court.

The alleged offences are said to have occurred between March and July this year.

In addition, the senior customs officer faces two extra charges for breaching secrecy under the Fiji Inland Revenue and Customs Service Act 1998, accused of disclosing confidential customs information related to the importation of drugs.

All six have been granted bail under strict conditions.

Their first appearance in the Lautoka High Court is scheduled for November 25th.

Authorities continue investigations to determine the full extent of the alleged drug network.
