3,612 calls to national domestic violence helpline in 2020-2021 fiscal year

The domestic violence helpline recorded a total of 3,612 calls in the 2020/2021 fiscal year.

This is according to data released in parliament by the Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Rosy Akbar.

She says this was the highest since the establishment of the helpline.

Akbar adds of these calls, 51% were domestic violence related.

She says the national domestic violence helpline noted that in April compared to March 2020, there was an increase of domestic violence related calls by 190%.

Akbar adds there was an increase of 267% of domestic violence related calls in May compared to April 2021
