A 3-year-old boy has passed away at the Lautoka Hospital from injuries sustained after he was trapped under a rolling steel gate.

Chief Operations Officer Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police Livai Driu says the incident occurred on Thursday but was only reported to the police on Saturday.

Driu says the death was unfortunate and could have been avoided.

The child, while waiting for his mother was climbing the steel gate when it fell on him.

Police say he was rushed to the Lautoka Hospital where he was admitted until the time of his unfortunate death on Christmas Eve.

In another incident, a 13-year-old student is admitted at the Sigatoka Hospital after she slipped and fell about 6 metres from a waterfall.

The girl was trying to take a picture on top of the Qwali waterfall when the incident occurred.

She is in stable condition.

The Fiji Police Force is once again reminding parents and guardians of the importance of supervision as we have another public holiday today and with the social activities planned, supervision must be prioritized at all times.
