The body of the 33-year-old man from Waituri in Nausori who went missing in the Baulevu River last Saturday has been found at Naduruloulou in Nausori this afternoon.

This brings the total number of people dying in the tragic boat accident on Saturday afternoon to three.

10 people were travelling on a seven-foot-long boat at about 2pm, which was operated by a 16-year-old when it allegedly submerged in the middle of the river due to its load.

A 4 year old’s body was recovered on Saturday, and a 7 year old boy was found dead by his father in Baulevu River.

We have sent questions to the Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji regarding the tragic accident, and how a 16 year old was operating the boat.

MSAF is yet to receive a report on the incident.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Livai Driu says they will investigate the negligence which led to the unfortunate incident and appropriate people will be charged.

He is calling on everyone to adhere to safety precautions when transporting people across the water.

The drowning toll is now 58 compared to 51 for the same period last year.
