In relation to the three people who were arrested at the Nadi Airport on New Year's Eve after they were found with large sums of money believed to be proceeds of crime, the investigation is now being handled by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Anti Money Laundering Unit.

The three were questioned and released as investigations look into the large sums of money found in their possession and whether it has any links to criminal activities.

They were stopped for failing to use seat belts.

After checking the driver’s licence, the police officer became suspicious, and upon questioning, all three suspects were found to be behaving suspiciously.

When police searched the three, one of them was found with over $9,000 in cash, while another had over $500.

Suspect one is a 27-year-old farmer from Sonaisali, Nadi, while the other two are from Tuirara.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Crime Mesake Waqa says investigation into drug related offences will go further into the proceeds of crime and unexplained wealth.

This is in line with the Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu’s directive of attacking the drug trade by removing the profit which a few are enjoying at the expense of innocent members of the public.
