Three youths who allegedly assaulted an elderly beggar to death and stole his money to buy liquor will appear in Labasa Magistrates Court today.

Police say they are facing charges after an investigation revealed that they assaulted the 68-year-old man from Wainikoro, Labasa.

They say on the 23rd of this month, a report was received at Wainikoro Community Police about an elderly person found dead two metres away from his home.

They say the deceased was known for begging for money and often carried a box of coins with him.

Police further say following an extensive investigation, they received information about a youth who had gone to buy liquor from a nearby shop using loose coins.

They say this led to the arrest of the individual and his two accomplices.

They add that the youths, aged 20 and two others, aged 22, were arrested and interviewed.

They say all the accused have been charged with one count each of murder.
