26-year-old Diloma leading the charge for women in Fiji’s Sugar Industry

In Fiji’s sugarcane fields, 26-year-old Nemai Diloma is breaking barriers as a Roving Sector Assistant with the Fiji Sugar Corporation Ltd in Nadi.

With a degree in Agriculture from Fiji National University, Diloma is putting her passion into action, supporting sugarcane growers through every phase of production, from planting to harvesting.

Diloma says she sees this role as an amazing opportunity to apply her studies and gain real-world experience in a crucial industry.

She says each day brings new challenges but she love working with the growers where its an opportunity to learn and grow.

She says despite working in a male-dominated industry and facing language barriers, her perseverance and adaptability have helped her succeed.

Diloma steps up to lead her team through a difficult planting season, demonstrating her leadership.

She says this experience showed her that women can excel in leadership roles in agriculture.

Diloma says teamwork,dedication, punctuality and hard work are essential in this industry.

She says there are endless opportunities for women in the sugar industry but it takes dedication and a willingness to step out of your comfort zone.

She adds that she firmly believe that women have the potential to lead and innovate in agriculture and she is proud to be part of this change.
