A twenty six-year hoodoo has finally been broken after the ACT Brumbies thumped the Crusaders 50–24 in Christchurch, with Fijian-born forward Rob Valetini crossing for a try to seal a historic victory.
Brumbies captain Ryan Lonergan says he is proud of his side’s performance, praising the players for playing in the right areas of the field and maintaining composure throughout the full 80 minutes.
Lonergan reflected that he was just two years old the last time the Brumbies defeated the Crusaders in Christchurch, adding that he is proud to be part of a squad that believes strongly in one another. He noted that the team has been together for a long time and is excited about what lies ahead this season.
The Brumbies led 19-14 at half time.
He also commended the clinical display from the backs and thanked the fans, as well as the Crusaders, for a quality contest.
Crusaders winger Sevu Reece managed to score a try, but it was not enough to stop a dominant Brumbies outfit from claiming a memorable win.
