A major transformation is underway in Nadawa with the Emerald Bay Project — a landmark $2.5 billion integrated tourism development that is expected to significantly reshape the economic and social landscape of Nasinu.
While speaking to fijivillage News, Nasinu Town Council CEO Felix Magnus says the project is more than just a development — it brings with it a new population, a new economy, and a new future for the fast-growing municipality.
He says Emerald Bay which is currently being funded by Merchant Finance and Naps Developments, will be a gated, self-sustaining community.
He says the project led in partnership with private investors and supported by the Nasinu Town Council will feature six hotels, a sporting complex, a commercial center, and residential plots.
He adds that the development will also feature solar-powered electricity, water harvesting systems, and is being built with sustainability and innovation at its core.
Magnus emphasized that Emerald Bay is a key milestone in the council’s long-term plan to become a self-sustaining municipality.
He says that, given the magnitude of the development, they are in discussions with the government to designate Emerald Bay as a Special Economic Zone.
He says this move is expected to attract major investors by making business operations faster and more efficient.
He adds that this is sort of like a Denarau for Suva, but much bigger.
The CEO says they believe this project has the potential to spark even greater development, including the expansion of Nausori Airport, which could allow direct flights from China and drive a new wave of tourism and economic activity.
He says the council has already ramped up internal preparations to meet the demands of the development.
He adds that line managers met earlier this week to assess service readiness and resource allocation, anticipating a significant rise in population and demand for services as the project progresses.
Magnus revealed that while construction is moving forward, infrastructure upgrades are essential, and talks are ongoing with the Water Authority of Fiji, Energy Fiji Limited, and the Fiji Roads Authority to ensure that roads, water supply, and power systems are ready to support the project’s scale.
The first major phases of the development are expected to be completed within the next two to three years.
