Suva will come alive early tomorrow morning as 24 energetic teams take part in the highly anticipated Bara Battle – The Amazing Wheelbarrow Race in support of the Frank Hilton Organisation.
Now a much-loved community tradition, the event combines fun, fitness, and fundraising to support early intervention programmes, mobility aids, and the ongoing care at Hilton Home.
Frank Hilton Organisation says race rules require 8 team members to be actively racing at all times, with one person seated in the wheelbarrow while others push.
Substitutions are allowed only from pre-registered reserve members who have signed waivers.
No changes can be made mid-race, and strict safety guidelines must be followed throughout.
While the race itself is for adults only, the family-friendly event features something for everyone.
Spectators can enjoy live entertainment by Liz Vamarasi and Kali Tui, delicious food stalls, and a festive environment.
The Fiji Police Band will also lead a ceremonial march, adding to the excitement.
The race kicks off at 6am and will continue until around 9am.
The 3 kilometre route is mapped within Albert Park and nearby roads, and with mostly flat terrain, it offers a safe but challenging course that tests teamwork, endurance, and strategy.
With a mix of charity, cheer, and community spirit, this year’s Bara Battle promises to be one of the most memorable yet.
