Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s new find Ropate Rere was adamant that he would make the cut for the team to the HSBC Perth 7s and it surely was an emotional moment for him when his name was called out.

The 23-year-old farmer says he was overjoyed when he received the news of being selected into the squad.

Rere says he kept telling himself that he was going to make the cut for the Perth 7s and he never lost hope.

Originally from Nagadoa village in Dama, Bua, the youngster impressed the national selectors during the McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast 7s over the weekend with his blistering speed and skills.

Rere says he has been working hard for this moment and it has finally paid off for him.

The former Bua College student acknowledged his parents for their support especially his father for always pushing him to his limits.

He says the work never stops here and he hopes to impress at this weekend’s Perth 7s so he can cement his place in the side as the team builds up towards the Paris Olympics.

The Fiji Men’s 7s side will take on Samoa at 6.38pm tonight in their first pool match, and then take on France at 11.31pm tonight in their second pool match. They will take on New Zealand at 5.25pm tomorrow in their final pool match.

The Men’s cup quarter finals will start at 10.10pm tomorrow, the cup semi finals will kick off at 5.10pm Sunday and the cup final will start at 9.53pm Sunday.
