A 21-year-old student is believed to have drowned in Lami.

Police say the man was swimming with another student near Matata Settlement in Lami when he failed to surface and was found motionless underwater.

Attempts to revive him were unsuccessful and he was conveyed to the Lami Health Centre where he was pronounced dead.

A post mortem will be conducted to ascertain the cause of death.

The drowning toll currently stands at 6 compared to 1 for the same period last year.
