Rafaela was born in Fiji but moved to the United Kingdom at the age of three, where she has spent most of her life growing up while maintaining strong ties to her Fijian heritage.
She has taken a bold step by joining the Royal Air Force, turning a childhood ambition into reality and becoming an inspiration to many of her young cousins and peers.
Waqanisau says her decision to join the RAF was driven by a desire for physical challenges, the opportunity to travel and further career development.

She says she wanted something that would push her physically and mentally while also opening doors for her future.
Waqanisau describes her training experience as one of the most demanding yet rewarding periods of her life.
She told fijivillage News that it was tough physically, mentally and spiritually.
The outspoken young woman says the training required intense mental strength, as recruits faced difficult conditions, including outdoor exercises in temperatures below five degrees Celsius.
She says one of the highlights of her training was adventure training in Wales, where recruits undertook hiking and rock-climbing exercises designed to test endurance, teamwork and leadership.
She adds that another key component of the training was live ammunition range training, where discipline, focus and precision were essential.
Despite the challenges, Waqanisau says one of the most memorable aspects of the experience was the camaraderie among recruits.
She says they built strong friendships, and going through those challenges together created bonds that will last a lifetime.
She acknowledged and thanked her family network that stretches across Fiji, the United States and the United Kingdom.
She says their encouragement, prayers and guidance played a crucial role in helping her stay focused throughout her training.
Waqanisau says her father, who previously served in the Fiji Army and now serves with the British Army, was a particularly strong influence
She says his firsthand experience in military life gave her valuable insight into the discipline and commitment required to complete demanding courses.
Waqanisau says being away from home for long periods was one of the hardest parts, along with meeting the strict physical fitness requirements expected of RAF personnel; wowever, she credits resilience, discipline and the support of her loved ones for helping her push through the toughest moments.
Waqanisau hopes her journey will encourage other young Fijian women to pursue opportunities they may once have thought impossible.
Her message to aspiring Fijian girls considering the RAF is one of courage and preparation.
She says if you dream of serving with courage, discipline and purpose, you should pursue it with determination.
Waqanisau says the path will test you, but your resilience, hard work and unique perspective can help you rise to the challenge.
She also encourages young women to seek mentorship, stay physically and mentally prepared, and remember that their roots and culture are strengths they bring to the global stage.
