20-year-old hopes to learn from other participants in India at Youth Exchange

20-year-old Etonia Saukuru is travelling to India for the 2024 Youth Exchange Programme where he hopes to meet other participants from various countries and learn their stories, cultures and historic backgrounds.

This annual event is organized by the Indian Defense Ministry to celebrate India's independence anniversary, brings together young participants from various countries, fostering cultural understanding and collaboration.

The participants will be visiting places of historical and cultural interest and interacting with top dignitaries of India.

Saukuru says he is going to use this opportunity as a chance to dive into a world of knowledge, learn about the histories of different countries, and unite with people from diverse cultures.

In 2022, Etonia Saukuru completed a training on Job Search Skills organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports where he was able to hone his CV writing skills and gained valuable insights from guest speakers with Human Resources backgrounds.

As a result, he successfully secured a job as a Food and Beverage Attendant at Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa in Denerau,Nadi.

The 20-year-old says he hopes to return to Fiji with a wealth of knowledge and a renewed determination to shape a brighter future for himself and his beloved country.

His journey to India not only represents his personal growth but also symbolizes the aspirations of the great nation of Fiji.

At a pre-departure briefing and farewell held at the Indian High Commission in Suva, Minister for Youth and Sports, Jese Saukuru, encouraged the delegates to embrace the diversity, culture, and traditions they will encounter in India.

Saukuru says this Youth Exchange Programme is not merely an opportunity to travel, but rather a chance for the participants to immerse themselves in a rich tapestry of knowledge, intercultural dialogue, and personal development.

He says for them to embrace the challenges that lie ahead, as it will shape them into fearless global citizens who have the capacity to ignite change and make a lasting impact.
