Two people will appear in Labasa Magistrates Court today after being charged with allegedly obtaining financial advantage by deception.

In the first case, a 35-year-old woman residing in Namara, Labasa is alleged to have obtained $320 from a member of the public through the MPAiSA platform on the 16th of March.

The investigation revealed that the victim had sent the money thinking it was to a number belonging to a family friend who had requested the money.

After enquiring with the family friend who informed her that she had not asked for the money, the victim lodged a report with the Police.

In another case, a 20-year-old man from Nabekavu in Labasa has been charged with one count of obtaining financial advantage for allegedly dishonestly obtaining $200.

The victim is alleged to sent the money to a number on a Facebook advertisement for a phone listed for sale on the 15th of May 2024.
