2 juveniles among 13 charged with serious sexual offences in January

A 15-year-old boy has been charged with the rape of a 19-year-old and a 20-year-old woman while in another case a 14-year-old boy has been charged with the rape of a 10-year-old girl from his village last month.

The 15-year-old boy was also charged with two counts of criminal trespass and one count of indecently annoying a person.

These two juveniles are among the 13 people who have been charged with serious sexual offences last month where there were 14 victims, of whom 5 victims were under the age of 18 years.   

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, says  there were 12 cases filed in the High Court with a total of 42 counts of sexual offences in January 2026.

There were 22 counts of rape, 6 counts of indecent assault and 14 counts of sexual assault.

The ODPP says there was one domestic incident.

There were three incidents where the victims and the accused were related to one another.

A 35-year-old man was charged with the rape of his 17-year-old stepdaughter, however, this
matter was discontinued due to insufficient evidence.

A 24-year-old man was charged with the rape of his 20-year-old de facto partner.

In another incident, a 24-year-old man was charged with the rape and sexual assault of his 18-
year-old stepsister, however, the matter was discontinued after the victim could not be located or contacted before and during the trial dates.

A 30-year-old man was charged with the rape of a 6-year-old girl.

The accused is known to the victim’s family.

There was one incident where a 24-year-old man was charged with two counts of rape, four
counts of indecent assault and two counts of sexual assault of a 25-year-old woman and a 51-
year-old Chinese national.

The accused person was their tour guide who had booked him for diving and snorkelling services during their visit to Fiji.

In another incident, a 40-year-old man was charged with the rape, sexual assault and indecent
assault of a 17-year-old girl, however, this matter was discontinued after the victim could not be
contacted or located before and during trial.

A 57-year-old man was charged with eight counts of sexual assault of a 38-year-old woman,
however, the matter was discontinued after the death of the victim (unrelated to the assault).

A total of five cases were discontinued due to insufficient evidence, death of the victim and after the victims could not be located or contacted.
