A 19-year-old man has been charged with one count of damaging property following an incident involving a Hanuman statue in Naduna, Labasa, last week.
Police say the accused is alleged to have unlawfully entered a prayer house and removed the Hanuman statue, which was found damaged in the complainant’s compound.
The incident allegedly occurred on last Monday when the homeowner discovered the statue missing before his morning prayer.
He asked his brother to look for the statue, which was later found about 30 to 50 metres away from the compound, damaged.
The man will appear in the Labasa Magistrates Court today.
