Fifteen cases were withdrawn in court in November due to insufficient evidence, police losing exhibits, review of evidence, a police officer failing to appear in court to give evidence and evidence of police abuse.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions says death of the accused and victim was another reason for the withdrawal of the cases.

A 45-year-old woman was charged with one count of embezzlement of $67,778 from Oneata Post Office, however, this matter was discontinued after police lost the exhibits.

There were two separate incidents where a 27-year-old man and a 38-year-old man were charged with unlawful cultivation of illicit drugs.

The DPP’s Office says they allegedly cultivated 7 kilograms and 11 kilograms of marijuana, however these matters were discontinued due to insufficient evidence.

Of the 68 people charged last month, nine were juveniles and five were police officers.

The juveniles were charged with aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary and theft offences.

A 33-year-old police officer was charged with one count of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice, however, this matter was discontinued following a review of the evidence.

The DPP’s Office says there were 4 cases of manslaughter, 13 cases of aggravated robbery, 1 case of robbery, 1 case of robbery with violence, 1 case of attempted aggravated robbery, 11 cases of aggravated burglary, 1 case of burglary, 1 case of attempted burglary, 12 cases of theft, 1 case of arson, 2 cases of act with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, 1 case of assault causing actual bodily harm, 3 cases of unlawful cultivation of illicit drugs, 1 case of careless driving, 2 cases of dangerous driving, 1 case of breach of zero alcohol limit, 1 case of failure to supply breath specimen, 1 case of embezzlement, 1 case of conspiracy to pervert the cause of justice, 1 case of criminal intimidation, 1 case of unlawful wounding, 1 case of wrongful confinement, 7 cases of damaging property and 5 cases of breach of curfew.

A 53-year-old man was charged with one count of vehicular manslaughter.

The accused was allegedly driving a tractor which resulted in an accident and caused the death of his 11-year-old nephew.

A 67-year-old man was charged with one count of arson, however, this matter was discontinued due to the death of the victim.

In another incident, an 18-year-old man was charged with unlawful cultivation of illicit drugs.
