1,437 polling venues in the next elections

There will be a total of 1,437 polling venues in the next general elections which includes 854 election day venues and 583 pre-polling venues.

Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem says there can be more than one station at a polling venue which means we are looking at more than 2,100 stations on election day.

Saneem says they will be doing venue assessments three times before 26th May 2022 which would be published before the elections.

He says the first list will be published will be on 20th January 2022.

Saneem says they will have regular consultations with political parties to get responses from them regarding the venues and see if the parties have some complaints.

He has also revealed that the pre-poll areas for the next elections will be declared on 23rd February 2022.

As at 30th June this year, there are 651,168 registered voters which include 325,198 women and 325,970 men.

Elections can be held anytime from 9th July 2022 to 9th January 2023.
