14 countries will be part of the Multinational Observer Group for the general elections in September.
The 14 countries are Australia, Indonesia, India, Papua New Guinea, Israel, South Africa, Brazil, Russia, Turkey, Japan, New Zealand, Korea, Iran and the UK.
Attorney General and Minister for Elections Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum also announced the co-leaders of the observer group were Australia, Indonesia, India and PNG.
Sayed-Khaiyum reveals that two countries, USA and Canada will be sending their observers once they see the Terms of Reference for the Multinational Observer Group.
Under the Terms of Reference that was signed today, some of the work the Multinational Observer Group will do is to observe and evaluate the functions and operations including the procurement process of the Fijian Elections Office, observe and evaluate the voter registration process and the establishment of the Register of Voters and voter lists.
The group will also observe and evaluate Election Day operations and events that facilitate voting operations in compliance with the procedures established in the Decree, observe and evaluate the vote counting process, the determination of election results and the dissemination thereof.
Sayed-Khaiyum said the observer group will play a very important role.
Sayed-Khaiyum said the number of officials each country will be sending depends on the countries.
He added each country will fund the expenses of their officials they send.
