The three sugar mills have so far crushed 1.274 million tonnes of cane this year.

The Fiji Sugar Corporation says despite continuous heavy rain during the past week, the crush to date is 6% higher compared to the same period for 2019.

114,138 tonnes of sugar has been produced so far this year compared to 110,029 tonnes for the same period in 2019.

It has also been highlighted that operations at the Labasa Sugar Mill again suffered last week due to lack of cane supply caused by continuous rain.

The mill crushed only 16,908 tonnes of cane and produced 1,365 tonnes of sugar last week.

The FSC says this has been the worst 3 weeks of operations for the season which could result in a delay to the end of crush in Labasa.
