127 Fijians will be leaving Fiji soon to work in Australia under the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility Scheme.

This was highlighted by the Minister for Employment, Productivity, Industrial Relations and Youth and Sports, Parveen Bala during the farewell of these workers in Kshatriya Hall Suva.

Bala says under the Vuvale partnership arrangement that started in April 2019, to date 8,493 workers have been mobilised of which 2,372 are under the seasonal work programme, 3,169 under the Pacific Labour Mobility Scheme in Australia and 1,952 engaged under the New Zealand Recognized Seasonal Employer Work Scheme.

He says this week 127 workers have been selected with the assistance of his ministries and they aim to reach 10,000 by the end of this year.

He further says like any other worker they are protected by legislation, laws, policies and procedures as they want their citizens to return in good form and health with a lot of money.

Bala reminded the workers not to forget their families and think of them back home. He says talks are underway with their partners to see how their families can also join them while they are working overseas.
