A 12-year-old student of Sabeto, Nadi has died after falling out of a moving carrier.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Livai Driu says it is alleged that he was amongst other youths traveling along Natadola and seated on the back tray of the carrier.
Driu says they drove through potholes, which had caused the student to fall out of the moving vehicle and landing on the tarseal road.
He says the boy was rushed to the Sigatoka Hospital and later passed away yesterday.
Driu says despite their calls for safety on the roads during the festive season and Police presence on the roads, incidents as such happen because drivers are not responsible enough.
He says Police cannot be everywhere on the roads to continuously remind drivers of their safety.
The body is at Sigatoka Hospital awaiting a postmortem.
