101 more farmers have received farming tools as part of the Ministry of Agriculture’s Back to Rural Agriculture initiative.

The Ministry has assisted a total of 375 farmers with tools under the initiative.

Minister for Agriculture Doctor Mahendra Reddy says they targeted 375 individuals who were given a package worth $400 which includes $250 worth of tools and $50 cash for the farmer to get whatever else he or she needs.

He says out of the 375, the ones that would have done exceptionally well would be eligible to apply for the next round of assistance when it reopens next year.

One of the recipients Josua Tawakedrau has thanked the Government for helping farmers like him.

Tawakedrau says COVID-19 really affected them and some farmers are without work..

He says in 2017 he was one of those that kept going to the Ministry’s office to enquire about agriculture assistance and he is thankful to God for being selected.
