Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem.

Supervisor of Elections, Mohammed Saneem says it would be important information for people if he had left the office when asked whether he had contemplated leaving the position in the last few months.

When questioned on fijivillage Straight Talk With Vijay Narayan, Saneem said this is not the time for him to leave and he does not have to speak about his personal choices on air.

Based on the requirements in the Constitution, the Writ of Elections cannot be issued before May 26th 2022 as the government has to serve 3 years and 6 months in office in the normal cause of business, and after this date the Prime Minister can request the President to issue the Writ, dissolve parliament and call for elections.

The closing of voter registration for the 2022 general elections will be on the day the Writ of Elections is issued.

The closing date for nomination of candidates for the elections is the 14th day after the Writ is closed. On the 18th day after the Writ, the final list of election candidates will be known and the numbers of the candidates will be drawn by the Supervisor.

On the 23rd day after the Writ, applications for postal voting close.

From the 35th day after the Writ, people in pre-polling areas will cast their votes.

On the 42nd day after the Writ is issued or 2 days before the elections, the blackout on political campaigns and media restrictions on campaigning will commence.

The earliest date elections can be held is July 9th 2022 and the last date is January 9th 2023.
