Team Fiji Va’a captain, Vateitei wins gold in V1 500m

Team Fiji Va'a Women's Captain Elenoa Vateitei has won gold in the V1 500 metres event at the 2023 Pacific Games.

Vateitei says the condition was very tough but she is thankful to God for helping the team come through.

She says she is proud and still in shock of her achievement.

Meanwhile, Fiji won bronze in the V12 500m race.

The 100 metres athletics heats are currently underway.

Fijian runners Braelyn Yee and Kesaia Boletakanakadavu came in 2nd in their respective heats.

Fiji is currently in 5th place in the overall Pacific Games medal tally with 10 gold, 16 silver, and 16 bronze so far. New Caledonia is leading with 55 gold, 37 silver and 34 bronze, while Australia is in second place with 28 gold, 19 silver and 8 bronze.
