Robust Fijian-England born tight-head prop and loose forward Vilikesa Sela has become one of the most sought-after young talents in England as the 20-year-old signed with Bath Rugby, following impressive performances for the England U18 and U20 squads during the 2023 and 2024 seasons.
Originally from Kadavu Koro, Kadavu, Sela was emotional upon returning to Fiji—visiting the very place where his father, Ilaitia Sela began his journey as a sports announcer with VITIFM before joining the British Army and relocating to England.
Sela says it’s good to finally see where his dad started his journey before moving to England and making big sacrifices for him and his siblings.
He credits his success to the unwavering support of his parents and siblings.
Sela has been a standout performer, earning selection in the England U20 squad for the 2023/24 season and played a key role in England's victorious campaign in the 2024 U20 Men’s Six Nations, and also featured in the team that lifted the 2024 World Rugby U20 Championship in South Africa.
When asked by fijivillage Sports about the possibility of representing the Fiji Water Flying Fijians in the future, Sela said he would if given the chance.
He added that being back home in Fiji was special, particularly as it coincided with his younger brother’s 21st birthday celebration.
Sela is set to return to England next week as he continues his promising rugby career.
