Fiji Labour Party Leader, Mahendra Chaudhry says as we celebrate Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday, we must remember the basic tenets of his teachings such as truth, peace, mercy and love for each other.

Chaudhry says the Prophet’s emphasis on social justice, alms for the poor and abhorrence of all forms of oppression towards people, animals or the environment is as relevant today as it was during his times, if not more so.

He says Prophet Muhammad is remembered as the last and most influential Prophet and his teachings formed the basis of the Quran and the Islamic religion as it is known worldwide.

Chaudhry says what made Islam significantly different was his insistence that one must worship only one God, forbidding all forms of worship of idols and images prevalent at the time even in the Muslim community.
