Rehabilitation is at the heart of the mission as it focuses on improving the lives of the inmates.
The Fiji Corrections Service says its rehabilitative initiatives begin with one-on-one counselling with its on-field psychologists to understand the stories, challenges, potential and paths of the inmates.
The Corrections Service says following the initial counselling inmates participate in the ‘True Identity’ classes, a powerful process of self-discovery and reflection.
They say sessions led by religious leaders allow inmates to reconnect with their values and sense of purpose, however, rehabilitation goes beyond mindsets.
The Corrections Service says it involves action where they are offered up-skilling opportunities, including farming, education and business training.
They further say that as they prepare to release inmates, they support them through tailored reintegration plans and once they’re back in the community their work continues.
The Corrections Service adds that it believes in second chances by providing a range of programs and services.
