The $18 million dollar Navy vessel, RFNS Puamau which is extensively damaged, is still in Ogea, Lau and there is no confirmation on when it will be fixed based on the high cost involved.

The Fiji Navy says the vessel was taken to Ogea three months ago after it ran aground on the reef in Fulaga, and has been left on the island to date.

When questioned by fijivillage News, Home Affairs Minister, Pio Tikoduadua says they are working on completing the processes in terms of what they will do with the vessel.

He says the fine decision to keep the vessel or not will be made very soon.

Tikoduadua says as part of the disciplinary measures imposed on those responsible for the grounding of the vessel, the Fiji Navy Commanding Officer and his team responsible for the grounding could be court-martialled.

Tikoduadua highlighted that its an ongoing process, and he will update the public on what is happening in that area and the non-adherence to best management processes by the Commanding Officer and his team are regrettable.

Tikoduadua says they are committed to ensuring that such incidents are thoroughly investigated, and appropriate measures are taken to prevent any recurrence.
