Olympics 7s: France makes a big statement on Day 1 of Women’s 7s

Host France made a big statement on Day 1 of the Women’s Rugby 7s Competition at the Paris Olympic Games after winning both their matches this morning.

They thumped Brazil 26-0 in their first match and then demolished Japan 49-0 in their second match.

France scored four tries against Brazil and seven tries against Japan.

They will meet the USA at 1.30am tomorrow in their final pool match.

France will be aiming to improve their standing from the Tokyo Olympic Games, where they won a silver after losing to New Zealand in the final.

France has won gold in the men’s 7s competition after defeating Fiji 28-7 and they will also aim to win gold in the women’s competition.

In other results, Ireland thrashed South Africa 38-0, Australia defeated Great Britain 36-5, the USA beat Brazil 24-5, China beat Fiji 40-12, and New Zealand beat Canada 33-7.

The women’s quarter finals kick off at 7am tomorrow, while the semi finals start at 1.30am on Wednesday.

The women’s final is at 5.45am Wednesday.
