Lautoka assault: Suspect yet to be charged, Police wait for woman to be medically cleared

Source: Fiji Police Force
The suspect who allegedly assaulted and robbed a 50-year-old businesswoman outside her shop in Lautoka, is yet to be charged.

Police say they are waiting for the woman to be medically cleared from the hospital so they can take her statement.

Photos are also being circulated of the woman seen lying in the hospital with a heavily bandaged head and blood on her clothes and bedsheet.

People are raising serious concerns about these brutal robberies taking place, and are also raising questions about what is being done.

When questioned by fijivillage News, Acting Police Commissioner Juki Fong Chew says Lautoka Police caught the suspect, and the victim’s phone was found in the suspect’s possession.

Chew says the suspect was identified through CCTV footage.

The woman is still admitted in a stable condition as investigations continue.

Some people have also raised concerns about Lautoka Police not acting in relation to youths openly drinking alcohol beside a supermarket in Lautoka City.

They want Police action.

We have alerted the Acting Police Commissioner.

He has assured people that he will address this with the Divisional Police Commander West.

Divisional Police Commander West, SSP Iakobo Vaisewa, has told fijivillage News that he will address this immediately as they have not received these reports.

SSP Vaisewa is calling on people to contact him on 8901667 if they notice any issues of concern in Lautoka.
