A witness has told reporters that "soldiers were everywhere, shooting in all directions" at the Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza City.

It was reported that Israeli forces had "destroyed the radiology department, blew up the burns and kidney department" and were "investigating doctors, the injured, and the displaced" at the hospital, the largest in Gaza.

Israel says special forces are carrying out "precise and targeted operational activity" within the complex.

The Israel Defence Force says soldiers are searching each floor, all while hundreds of patients and medical staff remain in the complex.

Israel began striking Gaza after Hamas's 7 October attacks, in which 1,200 people were killed and more than 200 hostages were taken.

The Hamas-run health ministry says more than 11,500 people have been killed in Gaza since then.
