Fiji caught out in restarts and rucks at LA 7s

At the recent HSBC SVNS World Championship in Los Angeles the Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s side were caught out in a couple of areas leading to them losing all 3 pool games as well as the 7th place playoff against Great Britain.

While there were some close games, opposition teams targeted the breakdown and restarts.

During the game against New Zealand, Fiji was leading in the second half, when the Kiwis started attacking the restarts, not going for the ball but the player to hold them up, thus getting possession and overloading on the rucks.

Leading up to the LA 7s, Head Coach Osea Kolinisau had stated to the media that they will not be over committing players to the ruck like they did in the Hong Kong 7s and that was one of the areas they were working on.

We have sent questions to the Fiji Rugby Union on the team’s performance.
