Fiji Teachers Union General Secretary Agni Deo Singh.

Serious concerns have been raised following the horrific case from Kadavu where a head teacher allegedly sexually assaulted a Year 7 student.

Fiji Teachers Union General Secretary, Agni Deo Singh says they are deeply concerned that the child’s trust was betrayed.

He says we have some 13,000 teachers in the country who are doing an excellent job, shaping the character as well as providing holistic education to the children in their care and it is a few maniacs who unfortunately enter the profession and stigmatize all.

Singh says the heads of schools, teachers and parents need to be vigilant and immediately take appropriate action.

He adds teachers are no less than parents to the children and must ensure that they treat them as such.
