The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission is warning businesses against engaging in unscrupulous business practices as they have received growing concerns about inflation in the market.

FCCC says the rising cost of living has made consumers more price-sensitive, and they are likely to switch to lower-cost alternatives if prices are perceived as too high.

They say this will ensure that businesses do not take advantage of consumers during this holiday season, therefore market-wide inspections will be carried out.

The Commission says they will be closely monitoring pricing practices to ensure that they are fair and transparent.

Chief Executive Officer Joel Abraham, says they are committed to ensuring that consumers are protected from any unfair or deceptive practices by businesses.

Abraham says businesses are under pressure due to the recovery post-pandemic, but it is not an excuse to take advantage of consumers.

They encourage consumers to report any suspected unscrupulous practices.
