Bringing cooked food for consumption to coincide with the Christmas festivities for prisoners has been stopped for security reasons.

This is the advice from the Fiji Corrections Service to family members of those who are incarcerated, saying that this decision is in line with an ongoing review of policies to determine the best practical approach to celebrate Christmas while someone is in custody.

They say the future holds that considerations would be determined along the premise that best serves the interest of the inmates as well as the safety and security of the correctional centres.

They add that the Corrections Service is committed to providing humane treatment of offenders in line with international best practices and thanked the families and public in general for their understanding and cooperation.
