Due to continuous heavy rainfall across the country, the Ministry of Education has announced that all schools across Fiji will be closed today.

The Ministry says Permanent Secretary for Education, Selina Kuruleca has had a consultation with the National Disaster Management Office.

The Ministry of Education says landslides in some areas, inaccessible roads leading to some schools, disrupted water, public transport, electrical services and blocked drains are also the reason for the closure of schools.

They say schools are also being activated for evacuation centres and Police are closely monitoring the situation.

The predicted heavy rainfall will also lead to rough seas and difficulty in moving around.

Heads of schools are expected to keep in contact with the District and Divisional Education Offices.
