Former Prime Minister and SODELPA leader, Sitiveni Rabuka has made an application for bail variation through his lawyer in the Suva Magistrates Court this morning.
Rabuka is charged by FICAC in relation to the declaration of his assets and liabilities as required under the Political Parties Registration, Conduct, Funding and Disclosures Act.
Rabuka's lawyer, Filimoni Vosarogo asked Magistrate Jioji Boseiwaqa if they can write to the court and FICAC when Rabuka has to travel around the country and spend a night away from home.
Vosarogo said this will mean that they will not have to come to court every time Rabuka has to travel around the country.
He also asked the court if Rabuka's reporting condition could be changed and he be allowed to report to Nabua Police Station once every two months.
Currently, Rabuka is reporting once a month.
FICAC's Senior Counsel, Rashmi Aslam did not have any objections.
Magistrate Boseiwaqa has approved the application for bail variation.
It is alleged that Rabuka made a false declaration of assets and liabilities to the Supervisor of Elections by failing to provide information namely, the tax liability with Fiji Revenue and Customs Service in the amount of $316,956, the investment and interest income with Raghwan Construction Limited in the amount of $200,000 and $16,000 respectively and the liability with Raghwan Construction in the amount of $120,000, contrary to the Political Parties Act.
The alleged incident occurred on 29th December last year.
The case has been adjourned to the 6th of next month.
