Work begins on Fiji's largest solar farm at Nadi International Airport

Construction has officially begun on the Nadi International Airport Solar Farm, which is expected to become the largest solar farm in Fiji.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Viliame Gavoka says the 3.25-megawatt project will help strengthen Fiji's renewable energy efforts while improving energy security.

Gavoka says the first phase of the project will power airport operations with renewable energy, reduce reliance on traditional energy sources, lower operating costs and reduce Fiji Airports' carbon footprint.

He says Nadi International Airport is Fiji's main gateway to the world, and it is important that it has reliable and modern infrastructure.

Gavoka says the project supports Fiji's long-term commitment to renewable energy and sustainable development.

He also highlighted Fiji Airports' recent achievements, including receiving the 2026 Green Airports Recognition Platinum Award and being named the Best Airport in the South Pacific earlier this year.

Gavoka says the solar farm has been designed to meet aviation safety standards, and thanked Fiji Airports and its project partners for helping deliver the development.
